Meetings

Our first meeting was be on March 1st at 6 PM in Loomis 137. Feel free to refer to the slides from the meeting at the following link:

All-Hands Meeting Slides

Youth Protection Training

We require all of our volunteers complete all of the below training before the first day of the event! This is also required by the respective organizations, so if you do not complete the training you will not be allowed to volunteer at the event. You will need your SSN to complete the training since both organizations conduct background checks.

Don’t forget to e-mail your Youth Protection Training completion certificates to IllinoisSTEMScouts@gmail.com as soon as possible!

Boy Scouts

To complete the Boy Scouts of America Youth Protection Training, create an account and complete the training at https://my.scouting.org/. Detailed instructions can be found in the All-Hands Meeting Slides above. Please save your certificate RIGHT AFTER finishing the training. Their system is slow, so it could take a while if you don’t save the certificate right away. This training is valid for 2 years, so keep your certificate saved somewhere! Please email us your certificate at least 2 weeks event before the event.

Also, note that there must be at least one volunteer per organization present during each of the two Novaree sessions that has completed the BSA registration form as well as the Merit Badge Counselor registration form. Again, please email these completed forms to us at least 2 weeks before the event. If you are teaching a Nova award you will need to fill out this additional form. Note, there is a requirement that the leader for this award must be at least 21 years old. If you were previously registered with the BSA as an adult leader you only need to do the Merit Badge Counselor form and SuperNova Award form if applicable.

Girl Scouts

We have been in contact with the Girl Scouts, and on multiple occasions, they have told us that all they require is that a leader of the event completes a background check. We (the Novaree officers) will be taking care of this requirement for you, so there is no additional training that volunteers need to perform for Girl Scouts.
